These areas of Oracle BI EE (ie, analytics, agents, dashboards, and so on) are sometimes referred to as presentation services.
You use an Oracle BI presentation file to store the objects, such as analyses, dashboards, and KPIs, that you and other users create using Oracle BI EE.
Users have their own personal folder (My Folders), where they can store the items they create. You can access the items in a personal folder and save content to that folder. Users can add subfolders to their personal folders to organize their content in a way that makes the most sense for them.
You can also store items in shared folders where other users or groups can access the items. A combination of business logic security, catalog item security, and data-level security determines who can view data and items, edit items, and delete items from the catalog. Your system administrator creates and maintains the catalog’s shared folder structure.

To access Oracle BI EE, you use the URL, user ID, and password provided by your organization. Make sure your browser is set to accept cookies to track logged in sessions.
You may not be prompted to enter values in all fields on the login page if you have already signed in with single sign-on (SSO).
After you log in to Oracle BI EE, you will be presented with one of the following pages, depending on what has been configured for you:

This page is your starting point for working in Oracle BI EE. You can find analytics, dashboards, and other things you use often on the home page. If you can’t find what you’re looking for, enter the name of the item in the search box at the top of the page. Or click on the Catalog link to view all available content. As you work, you can use the global header and home page as your primary means of navigating Oracle BI EE:
After you open a task starting point, the interface then shows you the page, window, or editor you use to execute the task.
Do not use the browser’s Back button to navigate Oracle BI EE, unless no other navigation methods are available. The browser’s back button may not retain the dashboard position on return. Breadcrumbs are the recommended navigation method. See About scrolling with breadcrumbs.
The home page is divided into sections that allow you to start a specific task or find an item. It also includes sections (for example, Recent and Favorites) that allow you to access items you’ve recently viewed, created, or updated, and items most frequently accessed by users assigned to the groups you belong to.

Depending on what has been set as your home page, you may receive the home page when you log in to Oracle BI EE.

The new homepage provides a way to easily work with Data Visualization (DV) projects, analytics and dashboards.
The new home page includes various features including BI Ask which allows you to find, view or create visualizations, analytics and dashboards.

You can switch from the new home page to the OBI Classic page by clicking Open OBI Classic. Use the OBI Classic site to create other objects such as alerts, notifications, and BIP reports.
Data sources contain the data you use to create analytics and DV projects. A data source can be either a content field or a dataset. Data sets can be created by either uploading an Excel file or by building a connection to an Oracle BI application or to a database. See Workflow for adding data sources.
The demo area offers several categories to help you quickly find the analytics, dashboards, and DV projects stored in the catalog. Use My Folders or Shared Folders to browse the catalog. Or click the Favorites, Recents, DV Projects, Dashboards, or Analyzes category to quickly find an item you’ve viewed recently or a specific item by genre.
You can use keywords to search for items in the catalog. Enter a keyword in the Find Content or Visualize field to see a list of items that match your search criteria and click on a row with the magnifying glass icon (located at the top of the drop-down list in the Search Results Containing section). You can use BI Ask to quickly combine existing data items for analysis. Enter a keyword in the Find Content or Visualize field to see a list of objects that match your search criteria, and click a row with an object icon (located in the Show Data Using the drop-down list) section to start building your visualization. . Use BI Ask to enter column names in the search box, select them, and quickly see an image containing those columns. You can use this functionality to perform impromptu visualizations without having to build a project first.
You can use the asterisk (*) as a wildcard when searching. For example, you can specify *forecast to find all items that contain the word “forecast”. However, using two wildcards to further limit the search returns no results (for example, *prediction*).
When searching, use meaningful keywords. Searching with keywords such as after, the, and in it returns no results. For example, if you want to type in the search box to find two tasks called “Forecast monthly sales by product category” and “Forecast monthly sales by product name”, it will return no results.
If you use a comma in the search criteria, the search returns no results. For example, if you want to search for quarterly sales equal to $665,399 and enter 665,399 in the search field, no results will be returned. However, typing 655399 returns results.

If you want to search for a date attribute, you search using the year-month-date format. A search using the month/date/year format (for example, 8/6/2016) will not return any direct matches. Instead, your search results include entries containing 8 and entries containing 2016.
When you enter criteria in the search box, what appears in the drop-down list of suggestions may vary depending on your location. For example, if you’re using an English locale and enter sales, the suggested drop-down list includes products named sales and sales. However, if you are using a non-English locale such as Korean and type sales, the suggestions drop-down list only contains items named sales, and items such as sales are not included in the suggestions drop-down list.
For non-English language locations, Oracle suggests that when needed, you search using root words rather than whole words. For example, searching for sales rather than sales returns products that contain sales and sales. Or search for custom to see a list of results that includes custom, customer, and customer.
The global header provides quick access to common functions and is always available from the user interface.

For example, you can use the global header to start a new project, search the Oracle BI documentation, access the product documentation, or view another item, without having to return to the home page. The global header also includes the Home page link so you can access the home page from other sites.
What you see in the global header is determined by privilege. Your administrator can customize the global header by changing the order in which the links appear or by adding links to internal or external sites such as Google or the Oracle Technology Network (OTN).
